For Wyoming families considering a virtual school, a day in the life of an online elementary school student at Virtual Preparatory Academy of Wyoming stands out for two things: a morning that opens with live math instruction before reading and writing, and an afternoon that closes with an elective enrichment course and direct teacher feedback. That combination of academic structure and daily creative engagement is what makes the school day feel complete. Here is what it looks like for a fourth grade student.

Starting the Morning Routine

The school day at Virtual Preparatory Academy of Wyoming begins at 8:00 AM when students log into Canvas to review the day's schedule, check assignments, and read through morning announcements before the first live class begins at 8:30 AM.

For younger elementary students, this morning log-in routine helps build the organizational habit of checking in before school begins. Learning Coaches support this routine in the earlier grades, with students taking on more of the morning preparation independently as they move through the upper elementary years.

Attending Live Online Classes

Live, certified-teacher-led instruction in math, reading and writing, and science anchors the elementary school day at VPA Wyoming. All live sessions are recorded, so students who need to revisit a lesson or who missed a session can review the recording the same day.

Morning Lessons

Following the 8:00 AM log-in, students move into a live math class with teacher-guided instruction at 8:30 AM, then into reading and writing workshop. The morning block covers two core subjects before the independent practice block and lunch. Schedules vary by grade level and subject, with younger students expected to complete approximately five hours of schoolwork daily.

Interactive Activities

Teacher-guided math instruction and a live science lesson with interactive activities give students active, participatory engagement with the day's content. Breakout sessions for small-group support are built into the independent practice block, giving students direct teacher help outside of the whole-class format.

Independent Learning Time

An independent practice block with a breakout session for small-group support is built into the late morning schedule. Students complete online assignments and practice activities during this block, with Learning Coach support at home. Students in kindergarten through third grade also use physical workbooks shipped directly to their homes to supplement their online screen time. Schedules vary by grade level and subject, with independent time increasing as students move through the elementary grades.

Breaks, Play, and Physical Activity

A lunch and outdoor break is built into the midday schedule at VPA Wyoming. This window gives younger students time to eat, go outside, and come back to the afternoon live science lesson ready to engage. Because participation is tracked Monday through Sunday rather than just weekday hours, families also have room to distribute learning time across the week when a day's schedule needs adjustment.

Teacher Support and Check-Ins

Breakout sessions for small-group support during the independent practice block give students scheduled, direct teacher help each day. All live sessions are recorded, providing students an additional way to review content at any point. The school day closes with assignment review and teacher feedback, a consistent daily check-in built into the schedule. Families can find the school calendar and resources on the Virtual Preparatory Academy of Wyoming parent and student resources page.

Social Opportunities and Clubs

Students at VPA Wyoming connect with classmates through daily live sessions, breakout small groups, and elective enrichment courses in the afternoon. School clubs including Science, Young Authors, Kahoot, Arts and Crafts, Cooking, and Kindness meet regularly, and the school hosts All School Assemblies and Munch Bunch student events throughout the year.
